The Louisa Lunkers fishing club was recently honored at the Virginia State Fishing Expo for some of their achievements during the 2017-18 season.
Several members of the team attended the Expo, held Jan. 18-19 in Richmond. Four members of the team were honored eith the John Crews Elite Team Award for placing in the top 10 at last season’s state championship. Brandon Bickley and Tyler Tinder finished third at the championship, while John Rogers and Peyton May placed eighth.
Rogers, May and Bickley also received a second award: The John Crews All Academic Award for maintaining an A-B average in their school work during the season. Other team members to receive the award were Jard Hall, Keegan Kracke, Mitch McCotter, Alan Swasey and Hasher Watkins.
Crews, a professional fisherman from Salem, presented the awards to the Lunkers.
“He’s a good mentor to the kids,” Billy Rogers, one of the team’s sponsors said. “He’s encouraging them and rewarding them for doing well.”
