After four and a half years of being the Louisa County Attorney, Dale Mullen moved on to the private practice sector on Monday.
“I have accomplished much of what the board of supervisors wanted me to accomplish,” Mullen said. “I am eager to apply the same vigor to helping clients in private practice.”
During Mullen’s time with the county he has increased public security, environmental compliance, developed systems for accountability and regulatory compliance.
According to Mullen, there was no environmental compliance in the county when he arrived.
As county attorney, he was able to put into place systems that will ensure the integrity of the water and waste water facilities. He achieved full regulatory compliance in all aspects of federal and state environmental regulation from Virginia Department of Environmental Quality after three years of persistent effort.
One program Mullen is proud of is an increase in public safety.
By working cooperatively with volunteer services, the county was able to accomplish a blended service of dedicated volunteers and professional career staff which increased emergency services’ accountability and responsiveness.
Mullen said it was a better allocation of taxpayers’ resources and improved public safety for the citizens of Louisa.
He was quick to single out the volunteers who provide emergency medical services and fire services.
“They are the backbone of our emergency response,” Mullen said. “I do not want to minimize the work the volunteers do, in fact, I want to maximize the work they do.”
By working closely with the volunteers, professional staff and the governing body, Mullen said, Louisa County has been able to achieve what other counties have found difficult to do.
He credits the commitment of the governing body and the volunteers who helped make the blended service a reality.
“We have one of the finest systems of delivery of fire and rescue anywhere in the state,” Mullen said.
