Races were won and school records set at the Louisa Lions’ swim team’s final meet of 2018 at Woodberry Forest School on Dec. 18.
Senior Alexa Owen led the Lions’ girls’ swim team with a pair of individual first-place finishes. Owen won the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of one minute, 59.95 seconds, and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.72 seconds. Owen also swam on the Lions’ 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams, both of which placed second.
Owen was joined on the 200-yard medley relay team by freshmen Lauren Dessent and Alison Soriano, and sophomore Hailey Conner. Dessent and Conner also raced on the 400-yard freestyle team along with sophomore Abby Pierce. Both relay teams placed second. The 400-yard freestyle relay team’s time of 4:23.88 set a new Louisa County High School record. The previous record was 4:38.15.
Dessent, Conner and Soriano also competed on Louisa’s third relay team, the 200-yard freestyle relay, along with sophomore Katey Parshall, placing third with a time of 1:55.59.
In addition to swimming on the relay teams, Dessent and Soriano each earned a top five finish for Louisa. Sorinao placed third in the 100-yard backstroke race with a time of 1:15.08, and Dessent finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:05.59.
