[Join The Central Virginian at 7:10 p.m. tonight (Nov. 17) when Louisa County’s favorite sports announcers—Tommy Nelson, Dicky Purcell and Byron Mehlhaff—bring you the LIVE play-by-play action of the Lions’ second playoff round in Chesterfield County. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

With the first round of the Virginia High School League Region 4B tournament behind them, the Lions look to their next challenge: the equally undefeated Monacan High School.

The last time the Lions played the Chiefs was in the first round of last season’s playoffs. Monacan won that game 42-24, bringing the Lions’ season to a close.

Louisa head coach Mark Fischer is expecting the same level of competition from the team this time around.

“There’s a reason they’re 11-0,” he said. “They’re a really good football team and they’ve got just about everybody back from last year.”

Among the threats that the Lions expect to face from the Chiefs’ offense are quarterback Syor Fludd and running back Kory Bridy, both of whom made big plays in last year’s playoff game.
