A jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes in Louisa Circuit Court on Jan. 11 before finding Clifford Wood, 46, of Louisa guilty in the 2017 murder of Sean Houchens.
Jurors recommended a sentence of life in prison plus three years, according to Rusty McGuire, Louisa County Commonwealth’s Attorney. The sentence included a second guilty charge of using a firearm to commit a felony.
Wood shot Houchens multiple times on Sept. 1, 2017 outside a house on Jefferson Highway (Rt. 33) near the Hanover County line. There was never any doubt about whether Wood had fired the fatal shots. Instead, his two-day trial revolved around the questions of his motive and whether the shooting was premeditated.
Wood’s sentencing is scheduled for March 25.
