A man is dead and another faces criminal charges after an apparent accidental shooting near Lake Anna on Dec. 2.
Joseph Brenden Hudson, 25, died shortly after he was shot at a house on Daniel Road. Emergency medical technicians were unable to revive him.
Later that day, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office charged Michael William Davis, 26, of Louisa, with involuntary manslaughter. He was also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Davis and Hudson have known each other for 15 years, according to Adam Ward, deputy commonwealth’s attorney.
Authorities believe Davis was playing with a gun when it discharged at about 11:45 a.m. The bullet struck Hudson on his left side, close to his heart.
Davis is being held without bail at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange. He appeared in Louisa County District Court Tuesday morning.
