As Louisa’s AAU boys basketball program prepares to enter its third season, directors say they plan on continuing their goal of turning young men into not only better basketball players, but better people.
It’s a goal the program’s directors tried to encapsulate in their motto: “Changing lives one dribble at a time.”
“I think the players gain the importance of basketball and also what it requires to be successful,” director Rico Smith said.
Tryouts for the program, which fields three Louisa Pride teams for sixth, eighth and tenth graders, are set to begin at the start of 2014. The season will start in May and run until August.
Smith said that the competitive atmosphere provided by AAU basketball allows young hoops stars to measure themselves against the best competition in the area.
