Louisa Town Vice-Mayor Mary J. Clarke and her 19-year old grandson, James Clarke III, were arrested Friday evening and charged with assault and battery of Clarke’s husband, James Clark Sr.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office had responded to a “physical domestic altercation” call.

Mary Clarke was released on an unsecured bond while her grandson was held on a $1,500 secured bond. An emergency protective order on Clarke was issued stipulating no violent contact with her husband and she was allowed back at her residence.

Clarke’s grandson was also issued an emergency protective order that also stipulated no violent contact, but was not allowed back at the residence. Authorities said no serious injuries were sustained in the altercation and Clarke’s grandson was transported to the Central Virginia Regional Jail.

Both Clarke and her grandson are scheduled to appear in Louisa County Juvenile and Domestic Court on March 8.
