Traffic between the towns of Louisa and Mineral were backed up on Davis Hwy. (Rt. 22) at about 10:15 yesterday morning after a two-car hit and run crash that ended with one car flipped upside down in a rain-filled ditch.

Amber McMurray, 73, of Louisa, was driving her 1994 Buick LeSabre on Davis Highway near Chalk Level Road when another vehicle crossed over the line, crashed into her vehicle and caused it to flip.

The driver who caused the accident, Melissa Zummo, 36, also of Louisa, left the scene of the accident in her 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, according to Deputy Alexander Cristofal of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.

Zummo was apprehended in Mineral and has been charged with hit and run, driving with a suspended or revoked license, reckless driving and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

McMurray was transported to University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. Cristofal reported that he believes she is going to be okay.
