Shonda Brooks discovered she did not enjoy going to regular college as she studied early education at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville. The Mineral resident then switched to business courses hoping to find that particular thing she was interested in.
Then a friend suggested she go to beauty school since Brooks loved to do hair. At the time, Brooks was shampooing at a salon while attending college and she was enjoying it. She decided to give cosmetology school a try and enrolled at Charlottesville Albermarle Technical Education Center.
“I ended up with straight A’s,” Brooks said. “[That] was a lot better than I did in college.”
According to Brooks, she chose CA-Tech for its two-year cosmetology program which allowed her to work and still go to school.
For the past 20 years Brooks has been doing hair and on Sept. 13 joined Hair Graphics in Mineral.
For Brooks, interacting with different people and getting to know them is one of her favorite things.
Carol Fix, of Lake Anna, has been a customer of Brooks’ for 11 years and when she heard Brooks was leaving to go to Hair Graphics she followed.
