From the office of Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney:
Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty McGuire announced the conviction of Winston Nugent, 39, New York, for Distribution and Transportation of Marijuana into the Commonwealth. Nugent who worked as an accountant in New York also distributed marijuana to supplement his income. He will now spend the next three years in prison.
On December 12, 2012 he rented a car in New York and traveled to Louisa County with over 15 pounds of marijuana. He stopped at a Burger King in Baltimore a few hours before he arrived in Louisa based on a receipt recovered in the car. When he arrived in Louisa he was apprehended by the Louisa County Narcotics Task Force. The task force seized three zip lock bags with a total weight of just over 15 pounds.
At the hearing McGuire argued how Nugent rose up from his past drug charges and obtained a college degree but threw it all away. The defense cited the letters from Virginia residents who were pleased with Nugent’s accounting services. On speaking of the conviction, McGuire said “greed landed this man in prison. He had a good paying job as an accountant but it was not enough and he turned to crime.”
