A few dozen pens, a dedicated group of volunteers and a little bit of leg work could change the future of restaurant development in the Mineral district.

Earlier this month, a group of local business owners and residents took to the streets in an effort to get 290 signatures to petition for a referendum that would allow mixed alcoholic drinks in the Mineral voting district.

"There were so many people who came together to get this done," Gary Griffith of Dockside Realty said of the petition. "A lot of people are looking for that option. People kind of associate that with when they are vacation....
