Operators at North Anna Power Station removed Unit 2 from service over the past weekend for a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. Unit 1 will continue to operate while the other unit is off-line.
During the outage, one third of the reactor fuel will be replaced with new fuel, and many maintenance procedures will be performed.
Key activities will include a replacement of the in core flux thimbles. These are tubes within the reactor that house instruments used to monitor conditions while the reactor is operating. The unit’s turbine control system will also be modified.
