Mamie B. Green

Mamie Ruth Brooks Green died on June 16, 2015 at the Hospice House in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Mamie was born on May 27, 1924 to the late Frank and Mable Brooks in Louisa County, Virginia. Mamie is preceded in death by her son, Felix Brooks Jr.; six brothers and four sisters. She was the last surviving member of the immediate Brooks family.

Mamie served as an associate minister at Bethesda New Life Gospel Church in Washington, D.C. under the late Bishop Iola B. Cunningham. Upon returning to her hometown, she returned to her home church, Phillipi Christian Church, and resumed activities as an active member. As a minister of God, Mamie visited quite a few churches in the Louisa-Mineral area preaching the gospel and singing God’s praises. Two of her favorite songs were “God’s Got a Hook in Me” and “Precious Lord.”

Mamie was very outgoing and talked to people very easily.  She would be considered as being Ms. Congeniality and always wanted to be presentable when she went out in public.  She was a wonderful cook and well-known for her spoonbread.

Mamie leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 77 years, the Rev. James Green; a son, Gregory Green; one grandson, Felix C. Brooks III; two great-grandsons, Felix C. Brooks IV and Christopher L. Brooks; three God-daughters, Tabitha Joyner, Renee Turner and Shirley Gomillion; and two devoted and caring nieces, Lenette O’Brien and Kathy Chambers; also a loving caretaker, Kimberly Houchens; and a host of relatives and friends.
