Mary L. Collier

Mary L. Collier, 73, of Bumpass, passed away Wednesday morning July 24, 2013, at her residence.

She is the daughter of the late Wilmer E. and Berta C. Sarver; and widow of John W. Collier.

Mary was a member of Little River Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Jessie W. Collier and his wife, Tricia L. Collier; two grandchildren, Jarred Collier and Taylor Krouse; two sisters, Juanita Wood of Farmville, and Dot Seay (Romilus) of Bumpass.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 25 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa.

A funeral service, conducted by Rev. Tim Christman, was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26, at Little River Baptist Church. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa.

Lewis R. Shelton Jr. 

Lewis Robert Shelton Jr., 77, of Kents Store, died on Saturday morning, July 27, 2013, at Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center in Louisa.

Affectionately called “June,” he was born Sunday, Nov. 24, 1935, in Kents Store, the oldest child of the late Lewis Robert Sr. and Alice Johnson Shelton. Lewis was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin A. Shelton; and one sister, Gertrude S. Bishop.

He was a educated in the public schools of Fluvanna County.

Lewis joined the Galilee Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member, serving devotedly as a member of the senior choir until his illness in 1995 left him physically unable to regularly attend or participate in church services. June loved the Lord and his church family.

Lewis Jr. was a retired carpenter who learned his trade from boyhood working shoulder to shoulder with his father Lewis Sr. in the Shelton Construction Company in Fluvanna County.

Lewis leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, one son, Robert (Robbie) Shelton of Richmond; four brothers, LeRoy (Virgie) Shelton of Kents Store, James (Deloris) Shelton of Goochland, Roger (Brenda) Shelton and Paul (Lola) Shelton; one sister, Victoria Mattie Kenan all of Kents Store; one brother-in-law, Paul (Dorothy) Bishop Sr. of Louisa; two granddaughters, Kendra Renee’ Shelton and Victoria Smith Shelton; and a number caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service, conducted by Elder Ruben Lewis, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, at Galilee Baptist Church, Ferncliff. Committal services and interment will follow in Galilee Baptist Church cemetery, Ferncliff.

Gene E. Spears

Gene Edward Spears, 72, of Louisa County, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Spears was a member of IBEW Local 666 and a member of the American Legion 0074 and Moose Lodge 1028.

Survivors include his wife, Elfriede Spears; his sons, David Spears (Kathleen) of Virginia Beach and Jeffrey Spears of Louisa; his daughter, Janet Spears of Louisa; his brother, Cecil Spears (Barbara) of Charlottesville; and his grandchildren Reilly, Victoria and Jonathon Spears.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Wallace Spears; and his sister, Betty Cole.

A graveside service will be held at a later date with honors on the family homestead.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division, Inc., 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Damaso R. Villalba

Damaso Rafael Villalba, 79, of Louisa, passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

Born in Venezuela, he is the son of the late Rafael and Carmen Villalba and had worked as a systems analyst for I.B.M.

Survivors include his wife, Coralie Villalba; a son, Christopher Villalba of Gaithersburg, Maryland; three daughters, Rosemarie Baker (Donald) of Mt. Bethel, Pennsylvania, Carmen Michos (Terence) of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Debra McNulty (Patrick) of Malvern, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Salvador Villalba (Judy) of Valencia, Venezuela, and Freddy Villalba (Elizabeth) of Caracas, Venezuela.

The family received friends from 10 to 11a.m. on Tuesday, July 30th at Woodward Funeral Chapel where A funeral service, conducted by Pastor David Anderson, was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa.
