Carlton B. Harlow

Carlton Bruce Harlow, 66, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his home in Louisa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton Harlow and Edith Houchens Waller.

He is survived by his stepmother, Remona Harlow of Louisa; two sons, Carlton Bruce Harlow Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Bumpass and Chris Brian Harlow and his wife, Bonnie, of Bumpass; three brothers, Johnny Harlow of Louisa, Mike Harlow of Louisa and Wayne Waller of Louisa; three sisters, Linda Chapman of Louisa, Beverley Robertson of Louisa and Sandra Turney of Louisa; three aunts, Eva Williams, Bessie Harlow and Dot Harlow; two special friends, Carl Rosson and Betty Brady; two grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan; and two step grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary; and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church building fund.

Andrew C. Kalen Jr.

Andrew Charles Kalen Jr., 78, of Louisa, passed away Tuesday, June 11 at his residence.

He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, past president of Phi Delta Kappa at American University and had taught school in Maryland and Virginia for more than 40 years.

Andrew is predeceased by his parents, Jeanette Flyzik and Andrew Charles Kalen Sr.; a brother, John Kalen; a daughter, Ann Catherine Ensrud; and a granddaughter, Candace Marie McMillin.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Kalen; his children, Andy Kalen III, Surgoinsville, Tennessee, Philip Kalen, Morristown, Tennessee, Maria Cecilia Marlowe, Sterling, Robert Matthew Kalen, Stanardsville, Stephen Nicholas Kalen, Spotsylvania, and Therese Jean Hickey, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Luke Kalen, Atlanta, Georgia, Michelle Lam, Herndon, Stephen Ensrud, Woodbridge, Jordan Ball, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Stephen Kalen Jr., Spotsylvania, Catherine Hickey, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rachael Kalen, Spotsylvania, Shane Hickey, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John Kalen, Morristown, Tennessee; a great-grandson, Tyler Scott McMillin, Stanardsville; and a brother, Peter Kalen, Portland, Oregon.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 17, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Mineral.

Gary Schwartz

A memorial service, conducted by Pastor Josh Turner, to celebrate the life of Gary Schwartz and his love for children will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at New Life Community Church. Music will be provided by the New Life Praise and Worship Team.

The service will incorporate fundraising efforts for the back pack ministry of the church as well as Neve Michael Orphanage in Isreal.

Guests are asked to bring a covered-dish to share.


Justina N. Willis

Justina N. “Tiny” Willis, 97, of Maidens, Louisa County, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 15, 2013, at home.

She was a faithful member of Oakland Baptist Church and a charter member of Holly Grove Volunteer Rescue Auxiliary. She enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques.

Survivors include her children, Dorothy W. Lloyd (Warren) and Richard Alfred Willis (Martha); four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vivian Willis.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at Oakland Baptist Church, Gum Spring. Interment was in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery.
