Karen L. Poore

Karen L. Poore, 59, of Mineral, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at home.

Mrs. Poore was a member of Mineral Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Berryman; her sister, Gay Berryman Terrell; and step-father, Alva Mallory.

Survivors include her husband, James Allen Poore; her daughter, Stacey Noel (Chris) of Mineral; her grandchildren, James Garland Jacob Noel and Kamryn Lynne Noel; her step-grandson, Matthew Kendell Noel; her mother, Betty B. Mallory; her brother, Kenny Berryman (Jane) of Mineral; her sister, Connie B. Chipiwalt (Wayland) of Mineral; her step-brother, Randy Mallory (Barbara) of Poquoson; her step-sister, Susan McNeil (Dan) of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at Mineral Baptist Church. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

Gloria J. Hicks

Gloria Jean Hicks, 62, of Mineral, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital.

Born August 27, 1952 in Richmond, Virginia, she is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Virginia Hicks and her father, Walter Edward Hicks, both of Mineral, Virginia.

She retired from Amerisource Bergen, in Glen Allen, Virginia and was a dedicated NFL 49er and NASCAR #16 Greg Biffle fan.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Burford; her granddaughter, Hanna Jean Thacker; her sisters, Charlotte Ann “Polly” Duvall and Eunice Marie “Pie” Lane; her brothers, Charles Edward “Blunt” Hicks Sr. and James Melvin “Bimbo” Hicks; two close friends, Stacy Boyd and Reba Hicks; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Spring Grove Cemetery, Mineral, Virginia.

Arrangements are being made by Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa.

Eric L. Johnson

Eric Lee Johnson, 27, of Gum Spring, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, “Mee Maw” Leonard, and his grandfather Henry L. “Pa Pa” Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Krystina Mircia Johnson; his children, Carl Glenn McElroy III, Zachary Chase Johnson and Zoey Harper Johnson, all of Gum Spring; his parents, Henry “Sonny” and Elizabeth “Beth” Johnson, his brother  Michael Johnson all of Beaverdam; his grandmother, Suzanne Bradford Johnson of Mineral, Virginia; his mother-in-law, Linda Blevins of Richmond; his brother-in-law, Rex Blevins; his sister-in-law, Bille Blevins; his nieces and nephews, Rex Jr., Josiah, Ethan, Wesley, Grace, Jordan and Anna, all of Port Royal, Pennsylvania; and many aunts, uncles  and cousins.

A funeral service, officiated by Terry Sharpe and Lawrence Reed, was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Western Hanover Church, Montpelier, Virginia. Interment was in Trinity Church Cemetery,  Beaverdam, Virginia.

Blair H. Sharpe

Blair Hunt Sharpe, 90, of Louisa County, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at her home.

Services will be at a later date.

Carl W. Weaver

Carl William Weaver, 93, of Louisa, died Wednesday June 3, 2015 at Dogwood Village in Orange.

Born August 31, 1921 in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Clarence B. Weaver and Blanche Tavenner Weaver. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Connie Robinson; and a granddaughter, Stacy Brotherton.

Mr. Weaver served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Bell Atlantic Telephone company with 42 years of service. He was a charter member and deacon of Blue Ridge Shores Baptist Church in Louisa. Carl enjoyed woodworking, square-dancing, reading, watching western movies and cheering on the Washington Redskins.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Weaver of Louisa; four sons, Terry Weaver and his wife, Phyllis, of West Virginia, Doug Weaver and his wife, Julie, of Barboursville, Gary Norred of Louisa, Tex Weaver and his wife, JoAnne, of Charlottesville; three daughters, JoAnn Tesdall and her husband, Les, of Cross Junction, Virginia, Sheri Cushman and her husband, Jerry, of Maryland, Deni Norred of Virginia Beach; one sister, June Wiseman of Tennessee;  18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Steve Whetzel, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Blue Ridge Shores Baptist Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Blue Ridge Shores Baptist Church, 1230 Firehouse Drive, Louisa, VA 23093.
