Warren Graham

Warren Graham, 89, of Bumpass, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at Louisa Health Center.

He had worked for Southern Railway and served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was wounded at Iwo Jima.

He was the son of the late Augustus and Jennie Graham and is predeceased by his wife, Julia Graham; and a daughter, Nancy Monson.

He is survived by a son, Gordon Graham and his wife, Mary; a son-in-law, Mark Monson; and six grandchildren, Andrea Floyd, Christopher Monson, Nicholas Graham, Haley Bouvatte, Samantha Graham and Benjamin Graham.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Gum Spring United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being made by Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa.

Alice S. Shelton

Alice Katherine “Kitty” Smith Shelton, 89, of Bumpass, a devoted wife and mother, peacefully passed away Oct. 5, 2012, after an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Cammie T. and John M. Smith.

Kitty was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Garnett B. Shelton; four sisters, Marie Allison, Gladys Wheat, Frances Woolfolk, Ruth Smith; and one brother, Aubrey Smith.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses,  William and Cate Shelton, Pat and Richard Cunningham, Don and Cathy Shelton, Maurice and Patricia Shelton, and Sam and Kathy Sieg. Other survivors include 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Smith Family Cemetery, 2661 Belsches Rd, Bumpass.  The family is invited to gather at the Sieg’s following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Little River Baptist Church, 4990 Buckner Rd., Bumpass, VA  23024, or to your favorite charity.

Gertrud M. Short 

Gertrud Maria Short, 68, of Bumpass, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Henrico Doctors Hospital surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Short is survived by her husband, Donald L. Short; a son, Ronald A. Short and his wife, Dr. Shelley Short and grandchildren Jacob, Jessica and Travis of Goochland; a daughter, Melissa Cranor and (Bruce) and grandchildren, Jennifer Cranor, Julie and Eric Bratton; one great-grandson, Gabriel; and eight siblings including Silvia Gardner and Monika Richotte.

The family will received friends 7 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Lacy Funeral Home, Rt. 522, Mineral. Interment will be private.

Herman H. Walton

Herman Hidmore Walton Jr., 83, of Orange, died Thursday October 4, 2012 at Dogwood Village in Orange.

Born May 4, 1929 in Richmond, he was a son of the late Herman Hidmore Walton Sr and Elizabeth Trice Walton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara G. Walton; and a sister, Emma W. Harris.

Mr. Walton was the President of Walton Lumber Company and a former member of the Louisa County Board of Supervisors. He also served on the board of directors for Virginia National Bank and was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Walton will be remembered for his contribution to his county, state, country and his generosity to his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Morris Fackrell Walton; two sons, H.H. Walton III, Micheal S. Walton; two daughters, Linda Sue Walton, Rebecca Louis Donley; two sisters, Mary Lou Dickinson, Martha W. High; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday Oct. 8, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with the Rev. Herbert Hart, Dr. John Farrar and the Rev. Rick Clore officiating. Interment will be private in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jesse D. Bean

Jesse D. Bean, 78, of Louisa County, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Louisa Health and Rehab.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bean; his sons, Jesse Lee Bean and his wife, Patsy, of Orange County, Michael Bean and his wife, Pamela, of Winchester and James Bean of North Carolina; his daughter, Dorothy Bean of Warrenton; his stepson, John Michael Lanham of Louisa; his stepdaughter, Carol Joan Faulk and her husband, Terry, of Rhodesville; his brother, Everett Atwood Bean and his wife, Mary, of Middletown; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Legacy Hospice, CHA Foundation, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 180, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
