We just finished organized team activities (OTAs) last week. We had about 10 practices during that time period. I think they went well for me. Some days were better than others, but for the most part, I was able to make a few plays during the team periods every day, and also on special teams.
My goal going into OTAs was to learn as much as I could and stay on top of the plays while getting better each day, and I believe I did so. I wanted to at least make a few plays each day during the team periods and almost every day, I did. There are some plays I wish I could have back,
but that’s how it goes.
I’m not intimidated at all in practice. I’d be lying if I told you that everyone here wasn’t a good football player. At this level, everyone is here because they can really play the game of footballl. With that said, so am I. I am just as confident going against an all-pro tackle as I was when I was blitzing off of the edge in The Jungle.
I know my abilities. I know that when I am playing to the best of my abilities, I can amaze myself with some of the plays I make on the field.
I am, however, playing against some of the all-time greats each day in practice. I know a few times during practice I have seen Eli Manning make some amazing throws. When he does, I saw to myself, “Wow, that was a pretty dang good throw,” but later on I’ll be sitting in the lunch room and he’ll come down and sit with me and we’ll have a casual conversation. When you grow up watching some of these guys play and then you get to play along side them, it isn’t intimidating, it’s a blessing. It doesn’t matter where you come from. I’ve always played with a great amount of confidence and I always believe in myself.
My coaching staff is really great. They get on me and let me know what I can improve on and what I can do differently on certain plays. They also let me know when I’ve done a good job. I just have to keep coming to work every day and giving it my all while at the same time learning as much as I can.
Preseason football is coming up (the Giants take on Buffalo on Aug. 3). We will have a month off before that starts. I plan on coming back to camp in the best shape I can possibly be in. That will put me in the best situation to succeed. I’m going to be training in Richmond, most likely. I feel great, and I’m at the weight I want to be at.
