A fire alarm broke out in the lodge at Shenandoah Crossing Resort, in Gordonsville, at approximately 1:49 a.m. Sunday. Seven fire companies responded to the call and operations were completed by 8 a.m.
In a press release, General Manager Jeff Musselman said, that the fire was contained in the restaurant kitchen, dining room, bar and meeting room space.
Ten rooms were occupied in the lodge and approximately 20 guests were evacuated and moved to the resort’s General Store, where they were given blankets and coffee until alternate accommodations were made on the property.
Louisa Fire Chief Keith Green and Gordonsville Fire Chief Ronnie Johnson, said they believe the fire started in the kitchen. Johnson said heavy fire was showing as soon as the fire crews arrived on the scene
Due to a problem with the water supply on site, water tankers from Mineral Company 2, and Trevilians Company 6, Holly Grove Company 4 and Orange Company 25, had to be brought in.
According to Kimberly Wischnowski, spokeperson for Bluegreen Corporation, owner of the resort, two employees were on duty at the time the fire broke out and went door-to-door to confirm all guests had exited safely. One employee was treated for minor smoke inhalation.
