The warmer weather has finally come, signaling the arrival of the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department’s annual carnival and parade, which will be held on May 1-4.
The week’s events will also include the Miss Mineral Flame beauty contest on May 2, starting at 7 p.m. Contestants range from age six months to 19 years old. Applications are available by visiting the fire department’s website (http://mineralcompany2.com/custom.html?id=22095), the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page or by calling Irene Luck at (540) 894-0663. The deadline to enter is April 30 at rehearsal, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the fire hall.
The annual parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on May 3. Fire trucks, rescue squads, marching units, antique and modern vehicles and beauty queens will march down Mineral Avenue. Anyone interested in entering the parade can contact Luck at the above number, or email the entry information to firstname.lastname@example.org. Registry is also available through the fire department’s website or through the organization’s Facebook page.
The annual fundraiser for the fire department will open at 6 p.m. each evening with rides, games of chance and food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, funnel cakes, candied apples and cotton candy.
Ride-all-night armbands will be available each evening, as well as individual ride tickets. The fair is held on the firemen’s lot at 201 East First Street, Mineral. Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under 12. Ride tickets are purchased separately.
