The Louisa Police Department has a new way to get around town.

The department purchased a $22,000 four-wheel drive Ford Explorer to enhance the department’s response during inclement weather.

Chief A.J. Panebianco said snowstorms in recent years played a part in the purchase decision. He said that the department does have cruisers equipped with snow tires and chains, but added that the new purchase would help supplement their response capabilities.

“It’s a nice addition to the fleet,” Panebianco said. “It will allow us to respond to the public in a timely manner during inclement weather.”

The new Explorer—which is outfitted with the same equipment and markings as the existing fleet—will also serve as a regular patrol vehicle.
