Opening district play is always a bit nerve wracking for players and coaches alike but Louisa settled the butterflies and defeated the Lady Flying Flucos simultaneously this past Thursday evening with a 10-2 pummeling.
“I like our team and I like our chances in the district [Jefferson] this season,” Louisa Varsity Head Coach Dan Barrett said.
Tallying three runs in the top of the third inning, Louisa (5-2/1-0) expanded its advantage to 4-0 before the Lady Flucos sliced their deficit in half by pushing across a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
Shutting down Fluvanna the rest of the way, senior pitcher Brittany Wratchford improved her record to 4-2 on the season as she gave up only two runs on four hits while whiffing seven Lady Fluco hitters in the process. Junior Chrissy Cromer was again Wratchford’s battery mate for the game.
Senior McKenzie Riner and sophomore Lindsey Talley led the Lady Lions with three hits each.
