Motorists who travel Apple Grove Rd. (Rt. 657) in Louisa County may have noticed a Virginia Department of Transportation message board advising them to find an alternate route beginning Sept. 10 as crews begin replacement of the bridge over Cub Creek, located about four-tenths of a mile from Cross County Road (Rt. 522).
The existing Cub Creek bridge was built in 1945 and carries about 250 vehicles daily. The bridge has a posted weight restriction of 12 tons. However, once construction is complete, the bridge will be rated for all legal loads.
The road is expected to reopen to traffic on Nov. 22.
