Seniors Amanda Kern (14) and Lindsey Hammond (9) attempt to block a hit from an Orange player during their Senior Night game on Oct. 26.

The Lions’ volleyball team advances to the Virginia High School League Region 4B tournament following a 3-0 victory over the Orange County Hornets on Senior Night in The Den.

The Louisa County High School volleyball team closed out its regular season last week  with a pair of games. Prior to hosting the Hornets, they traveled on Oct. 24 to Monticello High School to face the Mustangs.

Monticello came out swinging and took the opening set 25-14. A 25-15 win in the second set gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.

The Lions found some offensive momentum in the third set of the night, keeping the score closer, but ultimately coming up short, 25-20, to give the Mustangs a clean sweep of the night.

The team was back in The Den on Oct. 26 for their Senior Night game against Orange County High School. This time the Lions were the ones to sweep things up.

Louisa’s offense came out strong, making an early jump to a 17-9 lead in the opening set, then making that lead stand for a 25-12 win.

After an early battle in the second set, the Lions jumped ahead 10-4 over the Hornets. A 12-8 run by the visiting team pulled them to within two points, 18-16, but they would get no closer. The Lions outscored the Hornets 7-3 to take the set, 25-19.
