A Bumpass man survived a heart attack recently thanks to a quick response and heroic efforts of a neighbor.
Chuck Neal, 60, suffered a heart attack on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 18. Neal, who had triple bypass surgery eight years ago, was alone when the incident occurred.
“I was just behind my desk drinking a cup of coffee,” Neal said. “Next thing I know, I’m waking up in the hospital. I didn’t feel this heart attack coming at all.”
Lucky for Neal, his nephew, Dolan Parnell, found him minutes after the heart attack. Parnell immediately ran to the end of Neal’s driveway, waving for help.
Neighbor Sammi Corey, 26, was driving to a friend’s house when she passed Neal’s residence on Bumpass Road. Parnell waved her car down as she passed Neal’s driveway.
Initially, Corey was hesitant to stop, due to the fact that she had her seven-year-old son, Chase, in the back seat.
