Kyle Alberts gets his opponent into a hold during the Lions’ home match against Western Albemarle on Jan. 10.

The Louisa County High School wrestling team hosted their final home meet of the season before traveling to John Handley High School in Winchester for the annual Judges Invitational tournament.

In The Den on Jan. 10, the Lions faced off against Jefferson District rival Western Albemarle in a dual match. The Warriors won, 48-30.

The Warriors started things off with wins in the 106-pound, 113-pound and 120-pound divisions to go up 18-0. Western’s Beighley Austin eked out a 2-1 decision over Louisa freshman Anthony Ciotola for an additional three points.

Junior Mason Morris (132 pounds) got the Lions on the board with a pin over Western’s Zach Swales. Freshman Zach Taylor (138 pounds) and junior Austin Mills (145 pounds) also pinned their opponents to pull Louisa to 21-18.

Senior Cole Cutright (220 pounds) scored a win by forfeit, and junior Ben Froschauer (182 pounds) won his bout when his opponent Max Morrison was forced to withdraw due to an injury.  The Warriors picked up two more pins and a pair of wins by forfeit to boost them to a final score of 48-30.
