Three Louisa County High School chorus students were chosen by audition to represent Virginia Music Educator’s Association’s District 13 event at the Carpenter Theater in Richmond April 5-7.
Junior Taylor Seay, soprano 1, Sophomore Moriah Moss, soprano 2, and Junior Emily Phelps, alto 1, first had to audition in November for District Chorus. At those auditions, they had to rank in the top 15 singers in their voice part to qualify to audition for All-State.
At the District Chorus event, they auditioned for All-State and were selected as one of four delegates from each of their voice parts.
They began working on the music in February, and then joined the other delegates for the All-State Chorus event, which began rehearsals at the Richmond Marriott and Richmond Convention Center last Thursday, all day Friday, and a performance on Saturday afternoon.
This year, for the first time in Virginia history, the event was combined with the All-Virginia Band and Orchestra event at the Carpenter Theater (Dominion Energy Center). More than 700 musicians took part in the event.
“This was such an amazing and completely life-changing experience!” one of the students said.
Phelps performed as part of the SSAA Treble Chorus, while Seay and Moss performed as part of the SATB (Mixed) Chorus.
