A Mineral man was killed while working at a refuse and recycling station in Spotsylvania County when he became trapped inside a trash compactor, according to a statement from the county sheriff’s office.
Emergency responders were notified at about 8:24 a.m. on July 7 of an industrial accident that occurred at the Chancellor Convenience Center on Harrison Road. Within minutes they arrived to find 28-year-old Brandon Michael Nutter dead.
The victim had been employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the county’s solid waste division since June 21.
Detectives are working with state and local officials, including the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Department, to determine the cause of the accident.
“Spotsylvania County is deeply saddened and devastated by the loss of one of our own, Brandon Michael Nutter, who was tragically killed while working at the Chancellor Convenience Center,” said Michelle McGinnis, a county spokesperson. “We would like to extend our sincerest heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Nutter and wish them strength, comfort, and peace as they navigate the difficult times ahead.”
