Town planning commission, council consider proposals
Two proposals that would bring skill game businesses to the Town of Louisa are slated to go before the town council and town planning commission simultaneously next Tuesday, February 21, at 6:00 P.M.
Both Special Use Permits (SUP) have been filed for businesses on Main Street in the Town of Louisa featuring skill games, which came under fire from the state as being a form of gambling in 2020. They remain legal after a judge stopped the state’s attempt to ban them in December of 2021.
One request is for 450 East Main Street, the Louisa BP, submitted by The Sappington Revocable Living Trust and the owners of the BP gas station.
The second request was submitted by Central Virginia Property Holdings LLC and 208 Enterprises DBA Real Entertainment, for 209 West Main Street, which was the Court Café and Pub building across from the Louisa post office.
Both SUPs are scheduled for joint public hearings at the town hall on Tuesday, meaning they could feasibly pass through both approval bodies in one meeting.
The Town of Louisa is currently partnered with the National Main Street Center for a multi-phase strategy to rebuild Main Street as a vibrant community of small businesses. The proposal for 209 West Main Street would put the skill game center in prime real estate at the heart of downtown Louisa.
Each request will feature a public hearing at the meeting, allowing for public comment.
In the Future Farmers of America program, students participate in various events involving community service, leadership, competitions and fundraisers.
