A Buckingham County man died after his motor vehicle was involved in a crash on Interstate 64 at Ferncliff on June 15.
Vennor Peaks, 61, of Dillwyn was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the crash, which occurred at 12:10 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I - 64 at exit 143.
According to a preliminary investigation by Virginia State Police, a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer was stopped partially in the right lane and deceleration lane to Route 208 when it was struck by a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer. The Trailblazer subsequently made contact with a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban in the left lane. The tractor trailer ran off the road to the right into trees.
Peaks was the driver and sole occupant of the Trailblazer.
At this time, it is not confirmed that Peaks' death resulted from injuries suffered in the crash. His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The driver of the Suburban did not report any injury; the driver of the Volvo tractor trailer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The state police investigation of the incident is ongoing.
