Chalk Level Road at Route 22 closed to through traffic next three days

Route 625 (Chalk Level Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 22 (Davis Highway) and the Buckingham Branch Railroad crossing Tuesday through Thursday for maintenance work on the rail crossing. The road will be closed at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Portable message boards are in place on Route 22 and other nearby roads to inform drivers of the closure.

During the planned 60-hour closure Buckingham Branch will replace the grade crossing asphalt with a rubber material that provides longer service life and smoother ride for vehicles crossing the tracks. A contractor will then repave the approaches on both sides of the crossing. A VDOT crew will take advantage of the closure to replace several drain pipes that cross Route 625 between the railroad crossing and Route 22.

Motorists should follow the posted detour route. Access will be maintained to all entrances north of the crossing during the closure. The road is scheduled to reopen on Thursday afternoon; if the project is completed early the portable message boards in place will advise drivers that the road is open.
