To the editor:
I am extremely disappointed that The Central Virginian would choose to engage in the racially divisive practice of identity politics in last week’s editorial cartoon. The issue of gun violence in this country is important and complicated — portraying millions of law-abiding citizens as complicit in acts of violence is not only wrong but inflammatory.
The responsibility of these acts lays solely with the perpetrator, not the general population or specific racial groups. To deflect from this fact is to ignore the millions of responsible gun owners who exist in America. These individuals of all races and genders quietly and responsibly exercise all their Constitutional rights without public endangerment.
