To the Editor,

I was in Walmart before Christmas and bought a lawn ornament. I spent $15 on a pop-up elf. It was the best money I have ever spent.

Luke 18:17 states “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

My grandson turned four this year and I saw in his face the most heartwarming expression that fills your heart with joy. It wasn’t toward whom you might think.

His face lit up when Jingles the Elf was connected to electricity and popped up in the living room. He leaned over and kissed the elf on the nose. Then he stood next to him and gently took hold of his blue hand. My grandson loves this elf.

Jingles stands four feet high; has a 20-inch pink head with an elf hat; a yellow nose; green top; blue pants and hands; black eyes and a red smile. He has very big boots and lights up from within.

We as adults are failing as we judge people by their looks. Surely we can do better. In the eyes of a child everything is real until approximately seven years of age. We all need to show a light from within. In 2020 let’s stay age four in our hearts and life will be so much kinder and happier, as through the eyes of a child. Happy New Year 2020.
