To the Editor:

I am writing in response to last week’s letter by Pam Dawling supporting Juanita Jo Matkins as candidate for delegate and promoting climate change as a major issue. Dawling cites a number of “statistics” about percentages of people in the 56th district that believe this or that about climate change, global warming and carbon dioxide as if they were facts. But she gives no source reference to support her data.

According to, more than 31,000 American scientists have signed a petition saying that there is no convincing scientific evidence to support man-made global warming.

In 2007, while accepting the Nobel Prize for his global warming initiative, Al Gore made this striking prediction: “The North Polar ice cap is falling off a cliff. It could be completely gone in summer in as little as seven years. Seven years from now.” It is now 2019 and the ice cap is still there!

The Democrats’ plan for a Green New Deal is ridiculous. It proposes to eliminate fossil fuels, combustion engines, airplanes and cow farts, among other things. It would cost between $52 and $93 trillion, according to Douglas Holtz-Eakin of the Aspen Institute and former chief economist of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors. The Green New Deal would destroy the country.

We need to treat the environment with respect, but let’s do it in an intelligent way.

John McGuire knows this. He fought for his country, overcame great personal challenges, and understands freedom and capitalism. His voting record reflects this. I’m voting for John and I hope you are too.
