Daniel Gade easily won the Republican nomination to challenge Senator Mark Warner for his seat in Congress, winning 71 percent of the primary vote in Louisa County and 67 percent statewide.
Gade, a U.S. Army veteran and professor at American University in Washington, D.C., defeated Thomas Speciale and Alissa Baldwin, who each garnered 15 percent of the vote in Louisa.
Baldwin, a Nottoway County public school teacher, was somewhat competitive in the Patrick Henry #2 and Fredericks Hall precincts, where she won 34 and 31 percent of the votes, respectively. Statewide, Baldwin received 18 percent of the vote to finish second behind Gade.
The total number of votes cast in Louisa County during Tuesday's election was 2,378, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
