The Belmont Club of Women were delighted to have Louisa Adult Community Education’s former director, John Plunkett, and current director, Sharon MacDonald, speak at its July meeting.
This community-based literacy organization is solely supported by the community. ACE’s mission is to assist adults in Louisa County by providing family mentoring and quality tutoring in basic literacy, GED preparation and English as a Second Language in a safe, confidential environment. With the help and support of the community, they are in the business of changing lives and helping individuals to build a better future.
There are 43 active Adult Basic Education learners, age 16-92, and 23 active ESOL learners. Mentors invest several thousand hours a year to help. Several members are already volunteers with ACE.
The Belmont Club of Women is a community service organization open to members from Louisa, Spotsylvania and Orange counties. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the Belmont Community Center, 7124 Belmont Road, Mineral.
Meetings consist of a speaker, social time and a business meeting. Various fund raising events held throughout the year support the club’s scholarship programs and donations to local non-profit organizations. Interesting field trips are also planned during the year.
New members are always welcome. Come to a meeting as a guest to learn more. Contact President Caryl Mathieu at (540) 894-9035 for more information.
