A man was killed and his partner seriously wounded in a Nov. 12 shooting in Louisa County.
The suspect was detained by police in Nelson County about two hours after the attack on South Spotswood Trail (Route 33), which Louisa County Sheriff’s Office Major Donald Lowe described as a “home invasion.” He did not confirm whether the victims knew the shooter.
The victims are described as a couple in their 70s or 80s. The male victim was found dead when authorities first arrived at the scene. The woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting was reported at a house in the 7000 block of South Spotswood Trail, near the town of Gordonsville, at 1:40 p.m. The suspect was initially reported to be on foot in the area of the railroad tracks that run parallel to Route 33. However, authorities said the suspect fled a short time later in the victims’ gray Chevrolet Malibu.
The sheriff’s office is expected to provide more details about the incident on Nov. 13.
