These snapshots capture the celebration of “Court Day” festivities from March of 1984. Historically, the days of a month when court was in session served as regular opportunities for people across the county to come to town. As late as the early 20th century, court being in session marked a highly social event. This was especially the case for early spring months, as people who had not seen each other all winter were finally able to visit in the warmer weather.

During the early decades of the historical society’s existence, an annual “Court Day” celebration provided a time to appreciate our community’s past with demonstrations, re-enactors and vendors. Saturday, April 29, the historical society is hosting its annual Heritage Day, where it’ll host many of these same activities, including a walking tour of buildings seen in these photos, like the old jailhouse.
In the Future Farmers of America program, students participate in various events involving community service, leadership, competitions and fundraisers.
