Man drowns at Lake Anna

UPDATE: The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office has identified Nathaniel Mines, 50, as the man who drowned on Lake Anna on July 12.

Mines was observed by witnesses swimming near the islands off Duerson Point and Bear Castle Drive at about 1:49 p.m. He had been on a small flotation raft when the wind blew him a considerable distance from his boat, according to sheriff's office Set. Chuck Love.

"Mines left the flotation raft and attempted to swim back to the boat," Love said. "He was observed changing his mind and attempting to return to the raft, when he went under and his friends lost sight of him."

The area was searched by several marine units, including those of the Louisa and Spotsylvania sheriff’s offices, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the Coast Guard and Louisa Fire and Emergency Services without success. His body was later located by the Spotsylvania County Dive Team.
