Aila Boyd joined The Central Virginian this week as publisher. She was appointed by R. Jack Fishman, president of Lakeway Publishers, Inc.
Boyd served most recently as editor of the Fincastle Herald and The Vinton Messenger in the Roanoke area. As editor for Mountain Media, LLC, she received several awards from the Virginia Press Association.
Prior to beginning her journalism career, Boyd had an educational background and taught at the high school and college levels. She holds an undergraduate degree in theater and media studies from Radford University and a master’s degree in fine arts from Lindenwood University.
Fishman emphasized the importance of Boyd’s civic work with the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce.
“It is highly important, particularly in this period of time, that we were successful in locating an individual who feels very strongly about the importance of community journalism,” Fishman said.
“Being an active part of smaller communities that we serve is critically important in providing the citizens of our communities with vital information necessary for functioning in education, government and many other civic activities. This information helps build the quality of life of all our citizens.”
“Boyd will be leading a team of very professional folks in Louisa and obviously working very closely with David Holtzman, The Central Virginian’s editor.”
In addition to her experience as editor, Boyd has also served as manager of social media accounts for the 14 newspapers in the Mountain Media Group.
