One dead in Zion Crossroads motorcycle crash

Virginia State Police confirmed this afternoon that a motorcyclist died as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Sept. 14 near the intersection of Diamond and Richmond roads (Route 250), just west of Zion Crossroads in Fluvanna County.

The victim was identified on Sept. 16 as Corey L. Tinder, 22, of Charlottesville. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash was reported at 8:36 p.m. A 2000 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle was traveling west on Route 250. As it was attempting to pass a westbound vehicle, it struck an eastbound 2013 Kia Optima head-on. The crash occurred in a no-passing zone.

The driver of the Kia, a 45-year-old woman from Arvonia, was not injured in the crash. She was wearing a seat belt. 

The crash remains under investigation.
