The deadline for Virginians to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election was extended to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. Registration was interrupted yesterday when a construction crew severed a fiber-optic line in the Richmond area.
A federal judge agreed to move the deadline after the League of Women Voters of Virginia and partners filed a complaint.
“This year has been tough for everybody in so many ways. The portal being unavailable on the last day for people to register to vote was another hurdle,” said Deb Wake, League of Women Voters president. “Extending voter registration to compensate for those who did not get a chance to use the portal is just a matter of fairness.“
