Betty Jean Weeks (nee Robinson), 71, of Mineral, passed away on January 5, 2022, at Hospice of the Piedmont after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her parents, Buster Robinson and Norma Jean Hillard, preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by Thomas Earl Weeks, her loving husband of 45 years. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her brother, John Robinson (Sharon) of Ashland, Kentucky, her children, David York (Tracey) of Kendallville, Indiana, Christina Burkard (Marc) of Palmyra, and Katherine Moore of Charlottesville. She also has two stepchildren whom she loved as her own: Johnny Weeks (Donna) of Branson, Missouri, and Bobbie Jo Saunders (Mitchell) of Gloucester. Betty also loved her seven grandchildren: Thomas (Felicia), Amanda, Airrik, Amy (Michael), Cody, Dylan, and Alayna (Steven). As well as her six great-grandchildren: Thomas, Alice, Zoey, Zack, Jace, and Uriel.
Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, Betty moved to Virginia in her early 20s. It was there, while working in a restaurant in Hampton, that she met and fell in love with Tom. They would eventually move to Mineral to raise their family.
Betty was a diehard Yankees fan, which made for some fun, friendly banter with her Red Sox-loving son-in-law, Marc. It was not unusual for her to call Marc after the Yankees beat the Sox, laugh on the phone, and hang up without saying a word. Betty also loved to play cards and had learned to play poker the last few years. She also enjoyed putting together puzzles and working on crossword puzzles. A stack of puzzle books could always be found next to her chair. Betty was a quiet woman and loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery in Mineral. All are welcome. Please consider donating to Hospice of the Piedmont or the UVA Cancer Center in lieu of flowers. However, you may send flowers to Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Landen and his nurse, Jana Briedis-Ruiz, for the incredible love and support shown to our mother and our family throughout the last five years. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice for the care given during her final months, and a special friend, Joyce Ventre, for always being there for mom.
