As the seventh of eight children, Carl was born and raised in Louisa County where he attended school. He later joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea, Italy, and Germany over the course of his nine years of service. After leaving the army, Carl moved to New Jersey and drove public transit for the Port Authority for several years before relocating to Virginia in 1973 where he met his beloved wife, Carolyn Smith. Carl worked at Dominion Energy (formally Virginia Power) for 20 years in quality controls until his retirement in June 1994. Carl later went on to work for Louisa County Public Schools as a bus driver and hall monitor until his second retirement in 2011.

Carl loved fishing, carpentry, gardening, traveling, listening to music, spending time with friends and family and volunteering on construction projects of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Carl was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Mineral congregation.

Carl had a great sense of humor and was a very generous person. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who had the privilege to know him. Memorial services will be held via video conference on Saturday, August 15, 2020. D. D. Watson Mortician, Inc., Louisa, handled the arrangements.
