Herbert Leroy Shelton Jr.

Herbert Leroy Shelton Jr., fondly known as Bug, died suddenly on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his home.  Herbert was born on June 22, 1957, the son of the late Herbert, Sr. and Della Shelton. In addition to his parents, Bug was preceded in death by his baby brother, Melvin Shelton.

Herbert attended public schools in Louisa and was employed with Louisa County Public Schools at the time of his passing.

Herbert loved to sing and was always ready to bring a smile with a joke or a heartfelt word. Herbert accepted Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church family under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend John Tyler. Herbert served well as a member of the Senior Choir and the Men’s Chorus. A true songbird for the Lord, he never let an opportunity to praise through song pass him by.

He leaves to cherish his love and memory his beloved and devoted wife, his Queen, Bernice Washington Shelton;  his sons: Terrence (Ciera)Shelton of Gordonsville, Curtis Washington of Bealeton, and Jason Washington of Orange; two daughters:  LaToya Shelton of Louisa and Armoni Burnette of Zion Crossroads; three brothers: James (Subrenda) of Louisa, John (Terry) of Mineral, Franklin (Velma) of Montpelier; three sisters: Pearl (McLloyd) Mansfield of Camp Spring, Maryland, Ruby (John) Lee of Landham, Maryland, and Vivian (Edward) Winters, Jr. of Orange; two sisters-in-law: Annabelle Hill of Barboursville and Brenda Shelton of Louisa; 14 grandchildren; seven aunts;  two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Herbert had a special bond with his uncle, Raymond Shelton and was close buddies with Albert, Larry, and Dennis Shelton.

Viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021 at the funeral home chapel. Funeral services (outside at Rising Sun Baptist Church) will be held at noon Saturday, October 23, 2021 with Rev. Robert Anthony officiating and Rev. Walter Pleasants, Jr., eulogist. Interment will follow in the Shelton Family Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.ddwatsonlouisa.com.
