Robert Britt

Mr. Robert Britt, age 89, of Huntersville, North Carolina, formerly of Lumberton, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021. He was born in Robeson County, North Carolina on October 21, 1931 to the late Edward and Sadie Britt.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; his first wife and the mother of his children, Frieda Luker Britt; his second wife and the mother of four step-children, Joann Britt; his son-in-law, Gabe Elias; and his granddaughter, Jackie Elias McCloud.

Bob is remembered in life by his loving children and step-children, Mary Elias (Gabe), Bobby Britt (Robbie), Mike Britt (Julie), Debra, Sheryl, Karen, Robert, and Jason; his grandchildren, Jennie, Danny, Michael (Wendy), Matt, Amanda (Isaac), Kendall, Rebecca, Nathan, and Jack; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Bob was born and raised in Lumberton, North Carolina, where he graduated from Lumberton High School. He spent four years in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas and retired as an E3-Airman first class. After the military, Bob developed his love for music, specifically playing the stand-up bass in his bluegrass band, “The Carolina Buddies.” They would travel to open shows for stars like Johnny Cash and The Carter Family.

He spent his career working at the Newport News Shipyard, then Stone and Webster Engineering. In his free time, he enjoyed coaching his sons and watching baseball and he was a die-hard Tarheel fan. He also loved to square dance and play golf. Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge 114. Before his passing, Bob moved back to North Carolina to be closer to his family.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Kinlaw Family Cemetery in Lumberton, North Carolina with Rev. Joe Bounds officiating.
