The Louisa County High School boys’ basketball team rang in the new year a little early with a win at the Cyclone Classic tournament at Eastern View High School.

The two-day tournament opened on Dec. 28 with the Lions facing Wakefield High School. The Lions took an 18-13 lead after the first quarter, then went on a 26-15 run in the second quarter for a halftime lead of 44-28.

Wakefield outscored Louisa 44-35 in the second half to narrow the gap, but came up short, falling 79-70. The win advanced the Lions to the championship game on Dec. 29. Eastern View defeated Orange County 68-61 in the second first-round game, meaning the Lions would be playing the host school for the trophy.
