Louisa County High School fishing team honored at Richmond Fishing Expo

Several members of the Louisa County High School fishing team were honored with awards at the Richmond Fishing Expo on Jan. 20.

Held across three days, Jan. 19-21, at Richmond’s Meadow Event Park, the event offers different events and seminars on bass fishing techniques as well as allowing vendors a chance to sell their wares.

Members of the LC Lunkers, the LCHS fishing team, went to the expo to receive awards for their 2017 season.

The first award, the John Crews Academic award, was presented to five members of the team, all of whom maintained a 3.0 grade point average or higher during their fishing season. Five members of the Lunkers received the award: Brandon Bickley, Mitch McCotter, Jack Rogers, Tyler Tinder and Hasher Watkins.

The second award given out was the John Crews Elite Team award, which is given out to the top 10 teams in each division across the state. The Lunkers had two teams in the top 10. Rogers and his partner Ryan Fleshman placed second for the season, and the team of Peyton May and Dylan Carpenter

Both awards are named after, and were presented by, professional Bassmaster John Crews

“We’ve done really well for a small community,” Bill Rogers, the team’s primary sponsor, said.  “People are seeing our success and it’s helping the program grow.”
