The Louisa Gators swim team hosted its 2019 season opener at the Betty Queen Intergenerational Center on June 12. The Gators competed against the Fluvanna Aquatic Sports Team and the Charlottesville Elks. Though the teams didn’t garner points for a team score, but the Gators scored a number of first-place finishes throughout the meet.
Gavin McClellan led the field in the boys’ eight-and-under 25-yard freestyle race, finishing in 22.72 seconds. McClellan also scored a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle race, coming in behind teammate Lucas Schulz.
Dyllan Hartman scored a pair of wins for the Gators, winning the boys’ 15-18 50-yard butterfly (29.78 seconds) and the 50-yard freestyle (26.13 seconds). Rett Delbridge also garnered a pair of first-place finishes in the 15-18 age group, winning the 50-yard breaststroke (39.38 seconds) and the 50-yard backstroke (32.59 sceonds).
Taylen Soriano won the boys’ 11-12 50-yard butterfly with a time of 38.34 seconds, and won the 50-yard breaststroke in 41.96 seconds.
Other top finishers for the boys’ team include Eric Delawder in the eight-and-under 25-yard freestyle (46.19 seconds), Brody Spangler in the 9-10-year-old 50-yard freestyle (41.34 seconds), Cayden Knight in the 11-12 year old 50-yard freestyle (36.87 seconds) and Lucas Keller in the 11-12-year-old 50-yard backstroke (48.66 seconds).
